ABOUT

Our Founder

Founder

Alex Ginsberg is the founder of Orono Group. He was previously founder and CEO of Mercury Roadways, a logistics technology and last-mile delivery company he built through eight acquisitions into the largest in its niche, scaling from $3mm of revenue to over $40mm, from 30 to over 450 employees, and to a fleet of 350 vehicles across 5 states. Alex exited Mercury Roadways in early 2022 and continues to serve as Chairman of the Board.

The call to build was too strong to stay on the sidelines for long, and Alex founded Orono with the investors who backed Mercury Roawdays to acquire and build another great company.

Previously, Alex led sales, customer support, and operations teams at McMaster-Carr, an industrial supply company, and was a product manager at several start-ups.  Alex has made angel investments across healthcare, supply chain, and enterprise software.

Alex graduated from Swarthmore College with High Honors in Philosophy, has an MBA from Columbia Business School and is a member of the YPO Chapter of Philadelphia, where he lives with his wife.

Alex in Antarctica

Alex recently traveled to Antarctica for his father's 70th birthday.

Outside of work, Alex is a history buff, a mediocre golfer, a novice Improv comedy performer, and an avid traveler with recent trips to Antarctica for his father's 70th birthday and Seoul, South Korea to visit his in-laws. Once upon a time he was a wrestler and a Rugby Flanker.

An entrepreneur at heart, Alex started Orono Group to get back to work at building a great company.

Purpose

Our Name

Orono Group is named in honor of Alex's late mother, Gail, who passed away while Alex was building Mercury Roadways.  Alex was blessed to have the opportunity to care for her in her last year of life, an experience which was extremely meaningful.

Orono, Maine is home of the University of Maine, where Gail enrolled in college in her late 30s after dropping out of high school at 16 years old.

At Orono, Gail became a therapist, changing her life trajectory. She spent the rest of her life dedicated to her private practice, inspiring Alex's entrepreneurial spirit.
